Situated on the west coast of Scotland, the seaside resort of Largs is a very popular destination for holiday makers and day trippers alike!

Largs - A great place to visit for the whole family!
A Little bit of Largs History
Largs dates back to Viking times and is most famous for the Battle of Largs in 1263 against the Norwegian army led by King Haakon IV.
During a night on October 1263, stormy weather destroyed a lot of the massive Norwegian fleet, forcing a lot of boats onto the beach at Largs where fierce fighting broke out with the Scottish army fighting for Alexander III.
Although the battle was considered a stalemate (although some records state a Scottish victory), historians have said it was an event of international importance.

The monument 'The Pencil' is erected to commemorate the battle and is placed where they think the main battle took place at the south end of Largs front (approx. 1 mile from town centre).

Since 1980, Largs holds a Viking festival every year to mark the battle of Largs. There is a Viking village erected on the Largs front. The village is occupied by Viking enthusiasts and open to the public so that they can get a feel of what life would have been like in a 13th Century Viking village.
There is also a battle re-enactment held at the 'Pencil' monument every year and marks the end of the Viking festival. This memorable local event takes place in September each year.
No matter the weather, there is always plenty to do in this fantastic seaside town. From extreme water sports to trying your hand at putting on one of the putting greens on the seafront or if eating and relaxing is your thing, there are lots of pubs, hotels and eating places to suit everyone.
This seaside town has something for everyone.
Whether you're a day tripper just down to soak up the stunning views - only interrupted by an ice cream from the famous Nardini's Ice Cream Parlour or a poke of chips from one of the many award winning Chip Shops in Largs - or looking for a full action holiday, Largs can cater for all!
